Until recently, GPS receivers with sub-decimetre performance have been very expensive. However, lately a few low-cost RTK GPS solutions have emerged on the market. Still, the performance of these receivers is unknown in real-world applications. Low-cost sub-decimetre positioning is an enabler for future automotive and ITS safety and comfort applications, which makes this an attractive technology.
• Setting up and documenting three environments for affordable RTK GPS boards (NavSpark, SwiftNaviagation, UBLOX, and RTKLIB).
• Evaluating static and dynamic performances of these affordable RTK GPS systems by comparing their performance to the available high-end solutions (the evaluation may be performed at the AstaZero proving ground using driving robots and state-of-the-art positioning systems).
• Providing royalty-free prototype systems that are based on the best performing boards.
Each student will be cedited 30 hp. The work shall be conducted from September 2015 to January 2016 in Borås. At SP you colleagues will be experts and researchers in the areas of dependable embedded systems, ITS, and active safety testing.
The thesis work is suitable for two Master students with excellent background in embedded programming.
